The term ‘sexist misanthropy’ refers to dehumanising and sexist actions. Similarly, a corresponding focus on LGBTI people can be described as ‘queer hostility’. In a population survey conducted in Mannheim in 2023, more than 5,000 randomly selected people were surveyed on this topic. Two sets of questions were used to record sexist misanthropy. The survey asked about victimisation based on sexual or gender identity, i.e. hate crimes related to gender and sexuality. Additionally, it asked about perceptions of problems with gender-based degradation and hostility towards LGBTI people. The results showed that sexist misanthropy has a significant impact on fear of crime and institutional trust. Sexist misanthropy particularly affects young women and LGBTI people.
